MEYERSDALE – Rev. Gary Lynn Gordon, 74, heard these words, "well done, my good and faithful servant" on October 10, 2022. A native of Frostburg, Maryland, Gary was born on 'Little Christmas', January 6, 1948. He was son number five to the late William Thomas and Ruth (Stark) Gordon. Predeceasing him were two brothers, Rev. John W. (Deanna) and Ronald J. (Patty) Gordon and his father and mother-in-law, Melvin and Esther Wiland.

Gary was a member of the Class of 1966 at Beall High School. He attended Catherman's Business School before entering the U. S. Navy in 1968 where he spent two years aboard the U.S.S. Detroit AOE4 that included a six month tour of duty in the Mediterranean. He retired after 20 ½ years as a Yeoman Reservist. He graduated from Frostburg State University in 1983 with a B. S. in Accounting all while working full time at the Kelly Springfield Tire Company. He retired after 33 1/2 years and went on to work in the Accounting departments at Oester Trucking, Medisave Pharmacy, Landis Office Center and then retired again from HRDC in Cumberland.

In 1985, Gary answered the "Call of God" on his life and faithfully served as the Pastor of Liberty Christian Fellowship in Cresaptown for the past 37 years. He was a true pastor in every sense of the word, working alongside many to promote the Gospel in the tristate area. He and his wife Linda started the Magnify the Lord TV program in 1996 which is broadcast on Breezeline Cable System every Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

Pastor Gordon is an ordained minister with the Full Gospel Fellowship of Churches & Ministers International where he is a member of the Northeast Board and also the Treasurer of the region. He has worked closely with the Union Grove Campmeeting Association and holds the position of Treasurer on their Board of Directors.

He was an avid reader. Gary especially loved reading the writings of men who were passionately in love with Jesus Christ. He would search and buy old books on the internet. Their passion for Christ became his passion. Gary also had many books written about Civil War times and enjoyed writings from that era of history.

Surviving Gary is his wife and helpmate of 53 years, Linda (Wiland) Gordon; two daughters, Carrie Lynn Pifer, (William) and Laurie Lynn Poole (Jonathan); five grandchildren, Maria Balch (Michael), Max Poole (Emma), Zoe Pifer, Kellen Poole, and Carver Poole; three great grandsons, Michael and Maverick Balch and Oslo Poole. Gary loved times with his family, especially at 'The Barn' which he decorated throughout the year. Loading up his truck with his tools and going to his daughters' homes also gave him great joy and satisfaction.

In addition, Gary is survived by three brothers, Robert (Pat), Tom (Janet), and Roger (Tammy) Gordon. Also his extended family includes Melvin (Barbara) and John (Diana) Wiland and Barbara (Paul) Maust. He has many special nieces and nephews and his church family who are like family. His grand dogs are Diezel, Mollie, and Coal.

Visitation will be held on Thursday October 13th from 5 until 9 p.m. at Liberty Christian Fellowship, 14200 McMullen Hwy SW, Cresaptown, MD. A one hour service of 'reflections' will be held at 7:00 p.m. The celebration of life service will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Chaplain Shannon Rust will officiate. Interment will be at Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery following the service. Military honors will be accorded by Ft. Cumberland Post 13 Honor Guard.
