CUMBERLAND – Richard Allen "Dick" Baker, 82, of Cumberland, passed away Thursday, October 14, 2021, at UPMC Western Maryland.
Born December 10, 1938, in Cumberland, he was a son of the late Leo and Wanda Baker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Baker; and a sister, Diane See and her husband, Forrest.
Dick was a 1954 graduate of Fort Hill High School. He and his wife, Ellen, would remain loyal Sentinels throughout their lives. Dick went on to serve for six years in the United States Air Force as an airplane mechanic. Later, he worked as a machinist for the Chessie Railroad System. In his spare time, Dick enjoyed working on and repairing watches.
Dick leaves behind his loving wife of 43 years, Ellen (Jenkins) Baker; children, Michael Baker and wife, Tori, and their children, Cumberland, Rick Baker and friend, Ann, Hagerstown, Scott Baker and wife, Maryann, and their children, Norfolk, VA, and Larry Baker, at home; siblings, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Ketterman and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Gary Crider and family; sister-in-law, Angie Baker.
The family would like to thank Dr. Sunil Gupta and staff for their assistance and care, the staff on the Observation Unit at UPMC Western Maryland for their kindness and care, and the ICU staff for their compassion.
Private family visitation will be at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave, Cumberland, on Monday, October 18, 2021, from 2 to 4 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Sunset Memorial Park on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at 1 p.m. with Chaplain Bruce McBride officiating. Military honors will be accorded by Vietnam Veterans Association Chapter 172 Honor Guard.
Pallbearers will be Mike, Larry, Rick, Brenden, Ryen, and Scott Baker.
