Cumberland – Richard "Rick" Ray Cassell, 68, of Cumberland, MD, passed away on, Sunday, January 28, 2024 surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with lung cancer.
Born on November 2, 1955, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late William "Billy" and Janet (Herring) Cassell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Edward David Cassell and niece, Kimberly Jackson.
Rick was a 1973 graduate of Fort Hill High School. He retired from Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Redman Sioux Tribe on Virginia Avenue. He enjoyed listening to all kinds of music, but especially Eric Clapton, Allman Brothers, and Santana.
Rick enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed camping and fishing outdoors and traveling to Myrtle Beach with his family. He also enjoyed watching the Fort Hill football games.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Cindy Cassell, of forty years; three children, Megan (Jorge) Cassell, Sarah (Jordan) Brooks, Richard (Danielle) Cassell. He is also survived by grandchildren, Alex, Angel, Aaliyah, Kaden, Kamden, Jalen, Reagan, Nora, and Levi. He is survived by his sister, Deborah (Reed) Erickson; sister-in-law, Vicki Cassell; in-laws, Dick and Shirley Robinson; and a large extended family of nieces and nephews.
In accordance with his wishes, he will be cremated.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland on Friday, February 2, 2024 from 11:00 until 1:00 p.m. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. John Johnson officiating.
Interment was at Hillcrest Burial Park.
