CUMBERLAND – Richard Allen Deter, 68, passed away in Cumberland, MD, on July 17, 2023, after a short battle with cancer.

Born August 8, 1954, he was the son of Harry and Betty Deter. He also loved his in-laws as his own parents, Margaret and Glenn Lee Lambert.

He was with the love of his life, Juanita Deter, for 47 years in June. They had two wonderful daughters, Crystal Deter and boyfriend, Bobby Dick, of Cumberland, and Autumn Harris and husband, Douglas Harris, of Romney. He had eight amazing grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Earrin Deter, Gunner, Reagan, Freedom, Bentley, Kaydence, Hack, and Aubrey Harris. He also had bonus daughter, Jenae Kelly, of Cumberland. He had two brothers and two sisters, Michael Deter late wife, Janet, Harry Deter and wife, Cathy, Jill McGinnis wife, Sally, and Marie and husband, Jim Keech. He had many friends, but Bob Smouse, James Hillegas, and Bob Dolly were very special to him. He had many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He will be missed by his little dog Quincy.

He worked at ATK for over 40 years. He always had a smile on his face and a song on his lips. He was the type of guy who would give you the shirt off his back and fix anything he could for anyone. He loved to hunt. He also loved going to Canada to fish.

Rick, A.K.A. Santa Clause, will be missed by everyone. He was truly a blessing to everyone who knew him. We are heartbroken he is no longer here on Earth, but we know he is in Heaven. He was a wonderful husband, dad, pawpaw, and grandpap. We will always love you.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Thursday, July 20, 2023, from 5 to 7pm.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, July 21, 2023, at 1pm with Pastor Barry Hartung officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the funeral home to help with expenses.
