RIDGELEY – Richard E. "O" "Rick" Often, 66, of Ridgeley, WV, died November 8, 2023, at UPMC Western Maryland after a short battle with cancer.

Rick was a caring, generous and fun loving man. He had so many dear friends who thought highly of him and will deeply miss him. He enjoyed spending time with his wife and family.

Rick was an avid golfer and loved watching sports. He was a huge Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates fan.

He had several different hobbies, some of which included looking for old pennies, collecting baseball cards, cleaning golf balls and hunting wild mushrooms.

Rick retired last year after 42 years of service at ABL as an E.B. Welder. He also served as the company union president for 3 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel and Eugene Often; his brother, Faye; and sister, Dottie.

Rick is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Esther Often; one son, Derick Often and fiancée Michelle; two stepdaughters, Tina and fiancé Greg Foreman, and Crystal and husband Jeromey Barnett; stepson, Rick and wife Carrie Swanger. He has 13 grandchildren, Autumn Kendall, Allison Nelson, Kailey Perdew, Emily McClain, Hunter Perdew, Carter Wilt, Zach Swanger, Mylee Wilt, Brooke Swanger, Ryleigh Often, Nevaeh, Jordan and Anthony; 7 great-grandchildren, Braylen, Avery and Landon Kendall, Peyton and Colton McClain, Suttynn Nelson and one soon to be born, Raegan Downey. He is also survived by one sister, Norma Jean.

At Rick's request, he will be cremated.

His family will hold a Celebration of Rick's Life at a later date. The arrangements will be shared through social media and privately to all friends and family.
