CUMBERLAND Robert Earl "Bob" Bowman, 85, of Cumberland, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.Born August 1, 1932, in Cresaptown, MD, he was the son of the late Royce Sanford Bowman and Mary Elizabeth (Steele) Bowman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth H. "Betty" (Spiker) Bowman in 1998; daughter, Mary Kathryn "Kathy" (Bowman) Caruso in 2011; son, Thomas "Tommy" Bowman in 2017; brother, Ralph Bowman; and sister, Mary Emerick.Bob was a 1950 graduate of Allegany High School. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War as part of a tank regiment. He returned to Cumberland to begin his career of 24 years as an over the road driver for the trucking division of Celanese Corporation. He continued his career as an independent over the road driver for various companies in the Cumberland area.He was a life-long member of the American Legion Post 13. Throughout his life, he regularly assisted with events at St. Mary's Catholic Church, as well the Al Hambra Catholic Invitational Basketball Tournament (ACIT), by donating his services as a driver.Bob is survived by longtime companion, Mary Margaret King and her family; son-in-law, Steve Caruso; sister-in-law, Ruth Bowman; grandsons, Mark and Kevin Caruso, Robert Bowman; several great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Friday, May 25, 2018, from 5 to 8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Saturday, May 26, 2018, at 10 am.
