CUMBERLAND – Robert "Bob" Carl DeMoss, 81, passed away January 7, 2021, at UPMC Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. He was born in Bedford, PA, on November 11, 1939, to the late Charles Addison and Bessie (Loar) DeMoss. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John DeMoss. Bob attended Bedford High School and later worked at National Jet in LaVale, MD where he completed his machinist apprenticeship. He spent majority of his career at Cumberland Steel until its closure, and continued working at Allegany College until his retirement. Bob had a love for fishing, hunting, gardening, and learning how to plant and graft fruit trees from his father. He enjoyed raising chickens, which he learned from his mother. He was past Vice President and active volunteer at the Baltimore Pike Vol. Fire Co. Number 4. He was a faithful member of Our Lady of the Mountains Parish, attending and volunteering at St. Patrick's Church. In his later years, he enjoyed putting together puzzles and playing cards. He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Barbara Jean (Gaughan) DeMoss; three children, Robert Patrick DeMoss and wife Misty, Corriganville, Melanie Jean DeMoss, LaVale, and Cynthia Janel Lease and husband Jeff, Short Gap, WV; four grandchildren, Justin and Jayme DeMoss, and Jade and Tristan Harbaugh; two sisters, Agnes Donahue and husband Dan, and Carolyn Northcraft; brothers, James DeMoss and wife Vesta, Roger DeMoss and wife Becky, sister-in-law, Ida Mitzi DeMoss; as well as large extended DeMoss and Gaughan families. A funeral service will be conducted at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Monday, January 11, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. with Fr. Greg Chervenak, O.F.M., Cap officiating. Family and friends will be received one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will be Sunset Memorial Park. Due to the ongoing pandemic, all attending are required to wear a face covering and maintain social distance when possible.
