Ronald Arthur Elkins, 73, of Cumberland, MD, passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at UPMC Western Maryland.

Born in Cumberland, MD, on September 19, 1949, he was the son of the late Arthur and Alice (Myers) Elkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Ackerson; nephew, Patrick D'Atri.

Ronnie was a graduate of Fort Hill High School, class of 1967. While in high school, he was a member of the football and track teams. Following high school, Ronnie served his country in the United States Army in Vietnam. Upon his discharge, he attended Allegheny College and Frostburg State University where he graduated with a degree in sociology. Following graduation, he worked at the Thomas B. Finan Center and went on to be employed by the federal government in Washington, DC, where he retired from the United States Department of the Treasury.

As a musician, Ronnie enjoyed playing the guitar with local bands in both Cumberland and Washington, DC, and recently began playing the drums. Additionally, he enjoyed dancing to salsa music and was a poet who also wrote humorous fictional short stories.

Ronnie is survived by his wife of 43 years, Barbara Carey; son, Daniel T. Elkins and wife, Lauren; sister, Rosemary D'Atri and Bob and their family.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, PA, 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, MD, on Thursday, March 30, 2023, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, March 31, 2023, at 12:30 PM. Burial will take place at the MD State Veteran's Cemetery, Rocky Gap, with military honors accorded by the Vietnam Veterans Association, Chapter 172 Honor Guard.
