Obituary

Ronald Eugene Peterson, Sr., 92, of LaVale, MD, passed away on June 29, 2025 at Brightview Mays Chapel Ridge in Timonium, MD.

Ronald was born in 1933 to the late Samuel and Helen Peterson of Cumberland, MD, weighing only 2 Ibs at birth along with his twin sister, Elaine. They were not expected to survive the night.

Ron graduated from Fort Hill High School in 1952. He married the late Claudetta Mae Twigg in 1953. Ron and Claudia had known each other since the 2nd grade. They had been married for 61 years, until her passing in 2014.

Ron enlisted in the Air Force in 1952. He was stationed in NY, Wyoming, Greenland, Newfoundland, and FL. He was honorably discharged in 1956.

In 1956, they welcomed their daughter, Denise, to the family. Denise was born on Ron's birthday. Then in 1960, Ron Jr. was born, completing their family.

Ron starting working at the A&P when he was in high school. He worked at Bethlehem Steel in Baltimore for 33 years until his retirement.

Ron served faithfully at Eastern Assembly of God in Baltimore in various capacities; Board Member, Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent (overseeing teachers and curriculum) and Treasurer. He attended Central Assembly of God in Cumberland and served as a Board Member for a number of years. He also attended LaVale Baptist Church.

Ron volunteered at the Western MD Hospital for about 8 years visiting patients in the dialysis, cancer, and cardiac units, offering prayers and encouragement.

Ron served as a baseball coach for his son's little league teams for several years.

Ronald is survived by his children Denise Raduano (George) and Ronald E. Peterson Jr. (Susan). He is also survived by his twin sister, Elaine; grandchildren, Anthony Raduano (Heidi), Michele Santelli (Kenny), Ronald E. Peterson III (Nicole); 6 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and devoted neighbors. He was the brother of the late Jackie Largent and grandfather to the late Holly Peterson.

Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland on Thursday, July 3, 2025, 11:30 am – 12:30 pm. A funeral service will immediately follow at 12:30 pm, officiated by Chaplain Paul Demers and Pastor Doug Seaman.

Interment will be in the MD State Veteran's Cemetery, Rocky Gap. Military honors will be accorded by the Ft. Cumberland Post 13 Honor Guard.
