The world lost a beautiful soul on Tuesday, February 18, 2025. Heaven, however gained its newest angel. Ruth Ellen Abe, 92, died peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family. She battled cancer with unyielding strength and determination. She was cared for by her son Richard Carder along with the help of his daughters Amy and Angela who helped bring love and laughter into her final days.

Born on September 18, 1932 in Romney, WV, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Pearl (Hott) Combs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Virgil L. Abe and siblings brother Stanley Combs, two sisters Francis See and Betty Ludwig, survived by one sister Donna Pyles.

Surviving is her son Richard Carder, stepsons Mark Abe and wife Carol, Gregg Abe and wife Linda, stepdaughters Elaine Mc Clellan husband John and Pam Adams husband Mike. Ruth is also survived by 11 grandchildren Amy Crock, Angela Krampf and Lee, Jamie Chaney wife Kristen, Kristin Stansbury husband Ryan, Kelli Fridley husband Scott, Jennifer Whitacre, Eric Abe wife Mandy, Ashley See husband Scott, Dustin Adams wife Kimberly and Breann D'Atri husband Sean step-grandchild John Ansel wife Jody. Also surviving are 19 great-grandchildren Tyler, Cheyenne and Logan Crock, Brogan Sibley, Corinne and Sawyer Stansbury, David Adams, Riley and Crosby Abe, Braylon, Corbin and Kolson See, Mason Whitacre, Hayden and Audrey Fridley, Jasper Chaney, Maxim and Luca D'Atri step great-grandchild Tanner Ansel.

Ruth was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fort Ashby, the ladies auxiliary of Fort Ashby VFW and the Cumberland Outdoor Club.

Ruth graduated from Romney High School after which she started her career as a secretary for National Loan Company in Cumberland, Maryland from which she retired after 23 years. After her retirement she opened up a ceramic shop in Fort Ashby, WV for several years. Ruth and Virgil both had an enormous passion for their flower gardens and vegetable garden you could find them there most any time of day during the summer.

Ruth had a special place in her heart for longtime friend Linda Carder and her helpful care giver Esther Linder (Corky). She also had two (four legged furry friends) that she loved dearly and they loved her, Finley and Herbie.

At Ruth's request, she will be cremated and the family will have a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the WVU Medicine Hospice wvumedicine.org/homecare.
