CUMBERLAND – Ruth L. (McKenzie) Bowman, 91, of Cumberland, passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at Peace Healthcare at Lions Center.

Born July 28, 1931, in Frostburg, MD, she was the second of four children born to the late Oren S. McKenzie and Emma L. (Patton) McKenzie, of LaVale, MD. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph O. Bowman, in 2012, and her sister, Elinor M. Beaver of Silver Spring, MD, in 2014.

She is survived by her sister, Veronica Severns, of Chula Vista, CA, and brother, Oren McKenzie and wife, Mona (Currence), of Cresaptown, MD. Also surviving are her daughter, Sheila M. Harvey and husband, Lawrence W. Harvey, of Harpers Ferry, WV.

Ruth was a graduate of Allegany High School, Class of 1950, and she had also attended Catherman's Business School. She was employed by Allegany College in the Business Office and Technology Department as an Office Secretary for seven years. Upon the opening of the Thomas B. Finan Center she was employed there as an Administrative Aide to the Center Director for 17 years, retiring in 1994 after 24 years of State of Maryland service.

She was an active member of the Centre Street Methodist Church. She had served on the Executive Board and was also a member of the United Methodist Women's Miriam Circle.

Ruth had many hobbies; reading, playing the organ, traveling and working in her flower gardens. She was truly a child of summer. You could find her many warm summer afternoons enjoying her beloved porch swing with a good book or just communing with nature.

At Ruth's request, there will be no visitation or services. Inurnment will be private in Frostburg Memorial Park, Frostburg, MD.
