Obituary

Samuel "Sam" Spencer Grant, 38, of Cumberland, formerly of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at his home.

Born July 29, 1986, in North Richland Hills, Texas, he was the son of William Fink and Jennifer (Harris) Grant. Sam was preceded in death by his grandfather, David Harris.

Sam was graduated from Rio Rancho High School. He had a Bachelors in Paramedicine from University of New Mexico. Sam had a Master of Science degree in Leadership with Emphasis in Disaster Preparedness and Executive Fire Leadership with extensive experience as a National Registered Paramedic from Grand Canyon University.

Sam was the Director of Emergency Management in Garrett County, Maryland and formerly Division Chief of Emergency Management in Caroline County, Maryland. He was formerly the Operations Officer in New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

Sam enjoyed everything about camping and loved playing guitar on the worship team at the church. He loved playing games and being the best husband and father possible.

In addition to his parents, Sam is survived by his loving wife of 6 years, Ashley (Jackson) Grant; his children, Nixon Gutierrez and Abigail and William Grant; step-mother, Pamela Fink and step-father, Dr. Stephen Grant; and his siblings, Benjamin (Anahi) Grant and Bethany (Jordan) Thompson. He was an uncle to Naomi, Micah and Leilani Grant, Lucas and Maverick Schwarz, Thomas III, Adeline, and Harrison Jackson and Joann Haefka.

In accordance with his wishes, he will be cremated.

Friends will be received at the Crossroads Church, 17781 Garrett Hwy, Oakland on Thursday, May 15, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. A memorial service will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Kevin Randolph officiating.
