SHAWNEE, KS—Susan Marie Roberts, 97, of Shawnee, KS, formerly of Cumberland, MD, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2023, at Anthology of Olathe Retirement Community.

Born in Perry County, PA, on July 15, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Columbus and Mary (Stauffer) Brownawell.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard P. Roberts; two brothers; and four sisters.

Susan and Howard were married during WWII, after being officially engaged for 30 minutes, and were married 55 years. Susan was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandma.

She enjoyed doing all kinds of crafts, as well as harvesting and canning fresh vegetables from their large garden.

After retirement, Susan and Howard enjoyed spending time together and often went on long drives just to enjoy the scenery.

Susan is survived by her son, Mike Roberts and wife, Debby, of Shawnee, KS; grandson, Jason and wife, Heather, of Olathe, KS; great-grandchildren, Ellie and Luke Roberts.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, MD, on Monday, May 1, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Funeral services will immediately follow at 12:00 p.m. Interment will be in Maryland State Veterans' Cemetery, Rocky Gap, with her husband.
