CUMBERLAND Thelma Marie Welsh, 88, of Cumberland, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2019, at the Cumberland Healthcare Center.Born March 9, 1931, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late George and Naomi (Sturtz) Russell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Welsh; son, Mark Jeffrey Welsh; and sister, Frances Talley.Thelma was a 1949 graduate of Allegany High School. For 30 years she worked as a waitress at GC Murphy Company. Later, she co-owned Welsh Paving Company with her husband. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.She never met a stranger, and she enjoyed all of the customers and other people she met while working at GC Murphy Company.Thelma is survived by a son, William V. Welsh and Melody McMillan, Cumberland; daughters, Karen Smith and husband Craig, Short Gap, WV, and Tina Geraghty, Cumberland; grandchildren, Justin Smith and wife Krista, and Steve Smith and wife Lori; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Nia, Jaci, Harper and Chase Smith; sister, Georgia Russell, Cumberland; and brother, Richard Russell.In accordance with Thelma's wishes, she will be cremated, and her services will be private.Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. is entrusted with arrangements.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Avenue, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001 (https://alzfdn.org/support-us/donate/).Condolences for the family may be left at www.ScarpelliFH.com.
