Valentine "Val" Joseph Aman was born March 29, 1954, in Cumberland, Maryland to parents John A. Aman, Sr. and Domenica M. (Maggie) Artinghellis Aman.
He passed away Friday, March 8, 2024, at UPMC Western Maryland. Val was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John A. Aman, Jr.
He is survived by his sons, Matthew (Jamie) Aman and Josh Aman; grandchildren, Penelope, Olivia, and Josslyn. Also surviving are his siblings: Richard Aman (Sandra), Valrico, FL; Cathy Aman, Cumberland, MD; Theresa (James) Sacco, Hyndman, PA; Patricia (Jon), Cumberland, MD, several nieces and nephews as well as many cousins, and a special friend, Paula.
Val graduated from Bishop Walsh High School. Val began his career working for the Celanese Corporation. When he relocated to Oklahoma, he spent several years working in manufacturing for the Boeing Company; additionally, he worked in management for convenience stores in both Oklahoma and California. After returning to the Cumberland area, Val worked for EJ Streamer before retirement.
Val was an active member of Our Lady of the Mountains Parish, and he was a member of the Cumberland Democrat Club. He valued celebrating his faith by attending mass regularly. Val loved spending time with his family and friends, and he always looked forward to family celebrations. From gathering for brunch after church to family birthday parties, Val found joy in these times, and he always looked forward to the great food that accompanied them. His favorite past time was fishing with his friends, and he enjoyed going to bingo with his sisters. He was a devoted fan of the New York Yankees and the Green Bay Packers. During baseball and football seasons, family members could always expect phone calls to hear Val's wrap up of his teams' performances.
The family would like to thank the nurses in High Level Care, Palliative Care, and 7South at UPMC.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Friday, March 15, 2024, from 4 to 7pm. A Christian Wake Service will be conducted at 6:30pm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Church, 201 N Centre St, Cumberland, on Saturday, March 16, at 10am.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Our Lady of the Mountains Parish, 300 E Oldtown Rd, Ste 2, Cumberland, MD 21502, or Bishop Walsh School, 700 Bishop Walsh Rd, Cumberland, MD 21502, in honor of Val.
