Vera Jeane
Bauer
Dec 27, 1934 — Sep 26, 2023
Cumberland – Vera Jeane (McDaniel) Bauer, 88, of Cumberland, passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at Peace Healthcare at Lions Center.
Born December 27, 1934, in Cumberland, MD, she was the daughter of the late Okey McDaniel and Greetha (Teter). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lawrence William Bauer, and brothers Jackson Dale McDaniel and Okey Allen McDaniel. Honorable mention also to her deceased fur babies Pepe and Chante.
Vera was an independent, intelligent, strong, funny, and beautiful woman. She was fearless and lived her life as an adventure. After attending Scott's Beauty Academy very early in her life she worked as a hairstylist in the Cumberland area. Upon relocating to the Washington DC area, she opened her own salon and clothing boutique. After selling her business she and her husband decided to retire in the Cumberland area. At that time, she decided to open another business here in this area. She and her husband owned "Ye Olde Shoppe Antiques" in South Cumberland.
She enjoyed crossword puzzles, bingo, flea markets, fine dining and shopping. She loved her foray into the selling of items on ebay and became quite adept at turning a profit. Vera enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She did not have children of her own; she was always there for her nieces and nephews and leaving an indelible mark on their lives. I am sure each of us could go into detail on how she impacted our lives.
Vera is survived by her sister, June Ann House; nieces, Rose Edwards (Donald); Lou Ann Cammer (Steve), Kerri Lynn McDaniel and nephews, Thomas House Sr. (Heather), Todd McDaniel (Lauren) and a number of great nieces and nephews. Also mourning her loss is her dear friend and support, Rita Detaranto. Rita has been a godsend to Vera, June Ann, and her family. A special thank you to Rita for caring.
The family would also like to express our gratitude to the staff of Peace Healthcare, at Lions Center for the care and compassion shown to Vera while in their care.
Friends and family will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 15205 McMullen Highway SW, Cresaptown, on Saturday, September 30, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. A funeral service will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m.
