CUMBERLAND – Vera Janelle Wonders, 101, of Cumberland, MD, formerly of Ridgeley, WV, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2020, at the Cumberland Healthcare Center. Born January 2, 1919, in Petersburg, WV, she was the daughter of the late Harry Hartman and Mary (Barr) Hiser Fansler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Earl H. Wonders; daughter, Janelle Barker Wolfe; grandson, Gregory Barker; great-grandson, Bryon Jesse; two brothers, Leslie W. Hartman and Donald W. Browne; daughter-in-law, Sharon Wonders. Vera was a lifelong active member of Holy Cross United Methodist Church in Carpendale, WV. She had such a sweet spirit that all enjoyed being in her company. Vera was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She cooked, canned, loved to knit and crochet. She made the best pies in the world, especially one special pumpkin pie. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara J. "Bobbi" Snyder and husband, Marshall "Tex", Ridgeley, WV; son, Earl L. Wonders, Fort Ashby, WV; grandchildren, Scott Barker, Ridgeley, WV, Missy Jessen and husband, Tim, Wiley Ford, WV, Brenda L. Ettien and husband, Steve, Clearville, PA, Jill Snyder Banus and husband, Steve, Leonardtown, MD, Robin Lynn Bescher and husband, Barry, Martinsville, VA, Michael E. Wonders and wife, Carolyn, Short Gap, WV; 13 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; granddaughter-in-law, Pamela Cole and husband, John. Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. is entrusted with arrangements. Due to the current healthcare crisis, funeral services will be private.
