Viola Mae Slemmer (nee Plummer), age 87, of Cumberland, MD, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2024.

Born on November 18, 1936, in Cumberland to Alonzo and Audrey Plummer.

Viola graduated from Fort Hill High School and Memorial Hospital Nursing School. She lived a life dedicated to helping others. She was a registered nurse at Memorial Hospital and the Finan Center, a volunteer for the LaVale Rescue Squad, and a loving caretaker for family and friends.

Viola was married to Carl Slemmer for 18 years and they had two children. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Tammy Slemmer (Simpson), a graduate of Allegany High School and an Emergency Room nurse in Howard County.

Viola is survived by her son, Chuck Slemmer, an Allegany graduate and the longtime owner of Cumberland's Commercial Press Printing Co. She is also survived by Tammy's son, Andrew Simpson of Leesburg, VA, his wife Jennie and their children, Miles (9) and Taylor (6), and Chuck's daughter, Cambryane Slemmer of Cumberland. Viola's two children, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren were the loves of her life. She was always eager to share in their accomplishments and joys. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and resilience, and her wisdom and guidance will continue to inspire her family.

Per Violas wishes, services will be private.

Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.
