Wanda Cecelia (Michaels) Sweitzer, 93, of Cumberland, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at her home.
Born July 22, 1932, in Cumberland, she was a daughter of the late Mary Amanda (Donahue) and Francis Joseph Michaels. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas R. Sweitzer; grandson, Brian Sweitzer; brothers, Leo and Jake Michaels; and sisters, Bernice Growden and Leona Crowe.
Wanda was a 1950 graduate of Catholic Girls Central and went on to attend Catherman's Business School. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Our Lady of the Mountains Parish, and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America in which she served as regent.
Wanda was very fun-loving. She loved to laugh, dance, and entertain her family. Most of all, she loved the Lord and the Catholic faith.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her children, Thomas J. Sweitzer and wife Pauline, Pamela K. Funkhouser and husband Timothy; brother, Victor Michaels and wife Dottie; sister, Faye Shelton; sister-in-law, Loretta Michaels; grandchildren, Matthew Sweitzer and wife Tosha, Adam Funkhouser, and Chris Sweitzer and wife Tiffany; great-grandchildren, Jason, Devon, and Skyler; special and faithful cousin, Ilene Donahue Hunter, who became her best friend; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of UPMC-Western Maryland Home Healthcare and Hospice for the care and kindness they provided to Wanda.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Monday, April 20, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Monday, April 20, 2026 at 1:00 p.m.
Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Sweitzer, Chris Sweitzer, Adam Funkhouser, Jason Sweitzer, Devon Sweitzer, Tim Funkhouser, and honorary pallbearer, Brian Sweitzer.
