William "Bill" Aaron Avey, Sr., 83, of Cumberland passed away at home with his family Saturday, June 10, 2023.

Born in Martinsburg, WV on September 27, 1939 he was the son of the late William and Frances Avey. In addition to his parents Bill was proceeded in death by his wife, Wilda Mae Avey; a brother, Fredrick Anderson Avey; sisters, Sharon Lee Sigmund and Cora Louise Penturff.

Bill graduated from Fort Hill High School and served with the U.S. Army Reserve. He worked at the Kelly Springfield Tire Co. until its closing. After he enjoyed a second career following his passion as a gunsmith. Bill was a member of the Cumberland Moose. He loved sports, particularly the Baltimore Ravens and West Virginia Mountaineers. Above all, he loved people especially his family. He was regarded as "Pap Pap" by many.

Surviving are his children, William Avey Jr. and wife Rebecca of San Antonio, TX, Vicki Avey Lang and husband Philip of Columbia, MD, Jeffrey Avey and wife Christine of Cumberland, MD; grandchildren, Natasha Avey, Nicolas Avey, Gavin Avey, Tiffany Roschy-Lang and husband Jonathan, Brittany Lang, and Drew Avey; sister, Diana Hester O'Neal; numerous nieces and nephews; extended family, Connie and Rick Twigg, Matthew and Megan Twigg, Sara Twigg and her son Carson; and a dog, Jake Avey II.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 15th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. 108 Virginia Ave, Cumberland.

A funeral service will be Friday, June 16th at 1:00 p.m. at Living Stone Church of the Brethren, 114 North Cedar Street, Cumberland, with Pastor Michael Leedom of Berkley Springs, WV officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to service.

Interment will be Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale, MD
