Obituary

William "Bill" Francis King, 80, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2026, at home surrounded by his wife and children.

Bill was born on October 20, 1945, in Cumberland, MD. He was the son of the late Francis and Anna Mary King.

He graduated from LaSalle Catholic boy's school. After serving as combat medic in Vietnam, Bill went to work for CSX as an electrician where he retired after 32 years. He married his wife of 57 years Jo Frances Sherwood at St. Mary's Catholic Church. They settled in Rawlings, MD where they raised 3 sons and 1 daughter.

He is survived by his wife, Jo Frances King; children, Craig King of Las Vegas, NV, Brian King (Michelle) of Columbus, IN, Ted King (Nicole), and Michele King; grandchildren, Gage (Jayden), Shyann, Sierra, Evan, Elise, Anna, Isaac, and Rowan; great-grandchildren, Jackson, Trevor, Taitum, Claire, Amir, and Barrett; sisters, Patricia Robeson (Ron) of Odenton, MD and Charlotte King of Sanford, NC; a brother, Robert King (Charlene); a cousin, Mary Margaret King; and a large extended family including many nieces and nephews.

Bill was man of many talents that varied from carpentry, plumbing, electrician to mechanic. He built his forever home, enjoyed woodworking, and gardening. He enjoyed home improvement projects working and volunteering. Bill was a Scout leader of Troop 9 for many years as his sons were all scouts. He was the President of Rawlings Improvement Association. Bill was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.

Bill was a generous and caring person who was always willing to help family and friends whenever they needed him. He had an incredibly big heart and touched the lives of many through his kindness.

Friends and family will be received Friday, June 26th from 11:00am to 1:00pm at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. 15205 McMullen Hwy SW, Cresaptown, MD. A funeral service will immediately follow.

Internment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale, MD. Military honors will be accorded by the VVA Chapter #172 Honor Guard.

Family would like to thank all the caregivers for their kind, gentle care and support over the last several months. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Marci, Pam, and Lisa of Comfort Keepers; Teresa and Tracy of Hospice for their support and care for both Dad and Mom. The family would like to thank the Hospice nurses for tending to Dad and supporting the family during this time as well.
