William Robert "Bill" Patton, of Cumberland, passed away at his home on Friday, October 4, 2024. He was 86

Born in Cumberland, Bill was the eldest son of the late William H. Patton and the late Pauline A. Valentine (Short). He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Walburga J. "Jean" Patton (Fields), and his younger brother, the late SSG Charles L. Patton.

Raised in Cumberland and Glenside, PA, Bill attended Fort Hill High School where he played football, basketball, and was a member of the track and field team. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1955, and served in Texas, Mississippi and Vietnam. He returned to Cumberland in 1958 and met his future wife. They were married in December of 1958.

Bill is survived by his three children, William J. "Bill" Patton of Harrisburg, PA, Brenda J. Patton of Cumberland and fiancé Troy, and Brian C. Patton and wife Kaaren of Mercersburg, PA, his granddaughter Andréa M. Beall of Cumberland and fiancé Michael. He is also survived by his brother, Richard L. Valentine and wife Mickey, his sister Carolyn S. Dickensheets and husband Bill, Hillary and David Dolan and family, and Jessica and Jeff Troxell and family, and several nieces and nephews. Bill is also survived by his constant companion and loving cat, Lucky.

Friends and family will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P. A., on Monday, October 7, from 2pm to 4pm.

The Rite of Catholic Burial will be conducted on Tuesday, October 8, at 11am, at the SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Cumberland. According to his wishes, Bill will be cremated, and interment will be at Hillside Burial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 172.
