Obituary

William Ray VanMeter, 76, of 16600 Zenia Avenue, passed away at his home on April 17, 2024. He went to be with the Lord and his beloved mother and father, Norman and Belva VanMeter and his six brothers and sisters. Billy was also known as "Lizard" because he always was catching them at such a young age. Bill's neighbors knew him as he proudly wore the unofficial hat, as the "Mayor of Fairgo".

Bill leaves behind his three sons and their families, Billy Ray VanMeter and Danielle, Buddy Lee VanMeter and Denise, and Marcius Tate VanMeter and Rhiannon. Bill will be remembered and missed by his amazing grandchildren: Jacob, Taylor, Morgan and Cole. He was so proud of all their academic and overall achievements in life. He also leaves behind his two sisters, Linda and Mert, who loved him dearly and two very special friends, Larry and Peggy Bennett.

Bill was a member of several local clubs enjoying his expertise of skill pool, pool and shuffleboard. His other passions in life was hunting, fishing, football and NASCAR. He loved watching his boys racing cars and taking many wins in victory lane at the Cumberland fairgrounds race track. Bill was retired from Liller Bros. Paving.

At Bills request, he will be cremated and the family will have a celebration of life in May.
